At 34 Jaco Engels is the senior statesman of the Namibian side with Currie Cup and Super Rugby titles on his impressive CV. Engels was born on the banks of the Orange River, attended Potchefstroom’s famous Volkskool, played for the Leopards youth teams before his senior debut for the Northwest Province in the 2003 season. After a short stint with the Boland Cavaliers he was signed by the Bulls where he won 67 caps for the Blue Bulls and 40 Super Rugby caps with the Pretoria franchise. During his 5 year stay in the South African capital he won Currie Cup and Super Rugby titles in the blue jersey. He earned a further 4 Super Rugby caps for the EP Kings. Engels made his debut for Namibia at age 32 against Senegal in 2013. Two years later he has 12 international caps to his credit. Engels is based in Namibia’s capital where he shares his time working at Windhoek Gimnasium School where he is the Conditioning and Specialist forwards coach and assistant coach of Namibia’s champion schoolboy side. Engels is married to Lizelle and is the proud father of two girls aged 7 and 6 months respectively.
