Heinrich Smit is one of the utility backs included in the Namibian Rugby World Cup Squad. The 25-year old student has started at fullback, wing and centre in his 11 appearances for Namibia. Smit played for the Namibian under-16 team in South Africa’s Grant Khomo week and two years later for the country’s Craven Week team. Smit played 46 times for the first team of St.Andrews College in Grahams town where he went to high school.He studies at the Pukke Campus of the North West University in Potchefstroom, South Africa where he has played for the Pukke as well as the Leopards under-21 and senior outfit. He made his debut for Namibia against Senegal in Dakar on 11 June 2013 and scored his first try for Namibia against Tunisia four days later in the same tournament. He featured in all three Namibia’s matches in the Rugby World Cup qualification tournament in Madagascar last year, scoring three tries when Namibia qualified in dramatic fashion. He is also a high quality sevens player and in 2011 played for the SA Vipers in Dubai under Neil Powell and Marius Schoeman.
