Very few rugby players have had such an immediate impact on the test scene as Renaldo “Dado ”Bothma. In 2013 he visited Namibia with the SA Presidents XV and established that through parentage he was eligible to represent Namibia. He made his debut a year later in Namibia’s defeat to Kenya at the Rugby World Cup qualification tournament in Madagascar and announced his arrival on the international scene in no uncertain terms in the match against Madagascar when he scored four tries to help Namibia qualify for Rugby World Cup 2015. His professional career started with the Golden Lions and the Leopards before he joined the Pumas. He played for the Mpumalanga outfit 59 times and was a key player in the Pumas successful bid to gain promotion to the premier division of South Africa’s ABSA Currie Cup competition. He joined the Sharks for the 2015 and 2016 Super Rugby season but will return to the Pumas for the Currie Cup. After the Rugby World Cup Bothma will travel to Japan to play for Toyota Verblitz. He has scored 7 tries in 7 test matches for Namibia.
